KATM-FM
Modesto, California, Cat CountryTM 103.3
This station was originally KBEE-FM.
KATM-FM transmitter site, in the foothills west of Modesto, has
a 270 foot tower.
The main antenna at the top of the tower is a Cetec Jampro JSCP-6.
Below that is the auxiliary antenna, a 3-bay Cetec Jampro JSCP-3.
At the base of the tower, showing the kinks in the tower lighting conduit.
The transmitter building is posted with the required warning and
information signs. To the left is the 100 kW propane-powered generator.
The main transmitter is a Harris HT25CD, running at just under 17 kW.
Equipment rack, with Burk remote control, Marti TSL transmitter, Dielectric
coaxial switch controller, Moseley STL
receiver with LANLink, secret weapons, Marti RPU repeater set, support gear,
and subcarrier equipment.
The backup transmitter is a Continental 814R-1, which when needed,
produces 2.5 kw into the 3-bay antenna.
KATM is broadcasting in HDTM, using this Harris Z4HD transmitter into
the 3-bay auxiliary antenna.
Above and behind the analog transmitters was a twisted mass of coaxial cables
and a coaxial switch that allowed either the analog auxiliary transmitter
or the HD transmitter to use the auxiliary antenna.
We mounted the switch on the wall and rearranged the cables.
Apprentices David Hubbard and Kevin Judd in front of the electrical
switchgear for the site.
David runs 2 inch copper strap down the wall to ground the
coaxial cables.
Kevin connects the copper strap to a pair of ground rods driven into
the soil outside the transmitter building.
